This is most likely caused by having Lighting quality set on "Very High". You can of course add the shortcut to Steam if you wish. If you do not have a "Mods" folder, manually create it. Point the installer to your ".\steamapps\common\FarCry\Mods" folder in order to install it correctly.
By default, the installer tries to install it to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Mods", but that is not what we want. The mod works fine on the Steam version, just make sure you select the right folder when installing. Quick save through the menu! No more typing in the console!
